Questions for Hello Baby Adoption Consultants

You have questions,
we love questions!

  • An adoption consultant acts as a professional guide and coach throughout the domestic adoption process. The adoption process can be very complicated, and many families find it confusing and overwhelming. Hopeful adoptive parents often turn to Google to find information, but there’s too much information to make sense of it all. An adoption consultant is an expert who knows the ins-and-outs of the process—someone who can help you navigate the system, help you make the best possible decisions, network with those who work with expectant parents, and produce a life-changing outcome: saying hello to your baby!

  • Adoption consultants help hopeful adoptive families navigate the adoption process. As each step of the adoption process unfolds, we provide expert adoption support, education, referrals to adoption professionals and guidance and along the way, until you say hello to your baby.

  • Yes! Many families explore additional options while waiting with an agency, and we’re happy to support you.

  • No, you are not required by law to use an adoption cosultant. However, using and adoption consultant can be very beneficial for many reasons. Any missteps in the adoption process can cause emotional and financial loss as well as increased wait times.

  • No, we do not have direct contact with expectant mothers. Instead, we refer you to licensed agencies and attorneys nationwide with whom we’ve established trusted relationships.

  • Criteria vary by state and by the policies of the agencies you work with. At Hello Baby, we work with adoptive families between the ages of 25–50, married or single, who are relatively open in their adoption preferences. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, or sexual orientation.

  • Every family who chooses the path of adoption needs an approved home study. You do not need a home study to begin working with us. We will refer you to a licensed home study provider if needed.

  • No matter which adoption path you choose, you will need to complete a home study. A licensed adoption professional evaluates your family and home environment to ensure the safety and well-being of the child. After the evaluation, the professional prepares a report called a home study. An approved home study is required for every adoption.

  • While the average cost of adoption is around $55,000, this typically covers services provided by an adoption agency, such as expectant mother support, legal fees, counseling, and casework. Additional expenses—such as working with an adoption consultant, completing your home study, creating a profile book, travel and lodging, post-placement fees, and sometimes finalization—may increase the total cost. We’re here to help you understand these expenses and navigate what to expect at each stage of the process.

  • Private adoption is funded by fees that are charged to the adopting family. The fees cover a range of costs, including agency or attorney fees, legal work, casework, counseling, and expectant mother living expenses.

  • Probably not. Most adoptive families are in their 30s or 40s.

Families age 50 and over are able to adopt, but their options may be more limited due to agency and attorney age requirements. For this reason, we accept only a limited number of families over 50 at a time. Please feel free to reach out to see if we are currently accepting families in this age range.

  • Yes, single parents can adopt and are always welcome. We have had success with both female and male single parents.

  • Absolutely same-sex couples can adopt! We does not discriminate based on sexual orientation and we have helped many same-sex couples become a family.

  • The wait time to adopt depends on a variety of factors, but most people are successful within a few months to two years after getting an approved home study.

  • Due to adoption laws in New York, we can only accept a limited number of families in this state. Please reach out to check our current availability.
